Ernest Race
British designer Ernest Race redesigned two of Isokon’s pre-war products in 1963; the Donkey and the Bottleship. Race updated Egon Riss’s original Bottleship to make it a multi-functional piece of furniture. What was once an accessory, became a table with a compartment for storage, shelves suited to displaying magazines and books, and a tabletop.
The angular form marked a departure from the curves of the earlier design with the intention of attracting a new generation of customers. Only a limited number of Race’s design were produced in the 1960s before Bottleship Two was revived in 2015.
Designed in 1963.
