Marcel Breuer’s Long Chair is among the most iconic furniture designs of the twentieth century. The chair is an exercise in minimal design, pioneering plywood’s remarkable qualities and demonstrating Modernist principles around efficiency, innovation and lifestyle. The Long Chair’s fluid and slender profile is no less impactful today than when it was first presented nearly a century ago. The Long Chair evenly distributes the sitter’s weight across a large surface area, giving far greater comfort than a regular seat and promoting relaxation. The Long Chair was, and remains, for leisure. Isokon makes the Long Chair exactly as Breuer intended, in small production made by hand. The Long Chair appears in several museum collections and features heavily in the histories of furniture design, Breuer and Modernism.
