Designed as the smaller sibling to Egon Riss’s Penguin Donkey, the Gull is similarly sculptural in design and useful in nature. The Gull’s curved profile is reminiscent of a bird in flight whose wings act as a stand for books and newspapers.

The Gull can be freestanding or wall mounted. Only fifteen Gull bookstands were produced before the Second World War and plywood shortages halted production. The Gull was reissued in 2020.
