Ernest Race was charged with the re-design of the classic Isokon Donkey in 1963. His response was to create a design that lost none of the functionality of the original but updated its form and materiality.

This updated Donkey forgoes the original curves for a rectilinear profile and is made from functional white panels for a more contemporary appeal. It was originally advertised as an  “obliging creature that holds up to 90 paperbacks in two panniers… and provides a convenient chair side table for your tray of hors d’oeuvres, coffee cups, glass, ashtray, knitting or anything else you want to keep beside you.”
